After two years he had to go back to England where the civil war was began. He was one of the Puritan sides and a great supporter of Oliver Cromwell. In 1639 for Milton started the second period of creative activity and, until 1660, he devoted his writings yo the political cause. In 1649 he wrote "Tenure of the King" and "Magistrates" in which he justified the execution of Charles I. Milton worked on education and experience of marriage. His doctrine and discipline of divorce is the result of his experience of marriage. In 1660 the monarchy was restered, Milton lost his job was imprisoned in great danger of losing his life but friends helped him, and he was spered. At a point of his life when he had lost his important political position, and became blind and dependent, he produced his greatest works which belong to the third period of his created activity.

"Paradise Lost" or "The Fall of Men" was published in 1667 and was once receved ad a great epic.

"Paradise Regained" is the sequee answer to Paradise Lost. After the Lost of Paradise by Eve, here Satan tempts Christ in the desert, Christ resists temptation and triumphs over evil. Milton wrote his last great work: "Samson Agonistes". It is the story of the blind hero, who takes revenge on his enemies by pulling down the temple on their heads and dying at the same time. He died in 1674.

Milton and Dante

Milton and Dante use blank verse; both describe hell, both are concerned with their religious ideas but they are different: in the Divina Commedia, Dante is the hero while in the Paradise Lost, Satan is the hero. Dante's hell is planned and organised while Milton's hell is in a state of chaos. Dante speaks about political figure while Milton doesn't speak about politics. Finally, Dante writes in a simple language to be understood by everyone, while Milton's language is difficult and eleveted.
