Commento

The central dilemma of the passage, summed up in the famous line "to be or not to be", seems to be the choice between action and inaction. This is generally taken to relate Hamlet's incapacity to carry out the revenge on his uncle. Hamlet's choice on words and images chows his profound pessimism. After some general statements about death and life and in which he speaks about human sufferings, Hamlet exameines the thought of life after death. This is something which nobody realy knows anything about and everybody fear. It is this thought that makes us enduke life sufferings and prevents us from committing suicide. This is a clear reference to Hamlet's incapacity to act.
