William Shakespeare was the third child of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, and was baptized on 26 April 1564 in Holy Trinity Church. His father was a prosperous glaver and a leading member of the little community of Stratford.

Shakespeare attended the local grammar school and he learnt grammar, logic, rethoric on a firn latin base. In 1582 he married Anne Hothaway, and 5 months later a doughter, Susanna, was baptized. Twins Judith and Hamnet were born and baptized in 1585. Nothing certain is known about Shakespeare's experiences in the years between 1585 and 1592. In the 1593 he wrote "Venus and Adonis" and one year later he published his second poem "the rape of Lucrece". In 1586 Hamnet death. The loss of his child must have affected Shakespeare deeply.

1609 is the year of publication of the sonnets. The sonnets are 154 and could be roughly divided into two mains sections. The first group is dedicated to a "fair youth", probably Shakespeare's young patron, the Earl of Southampton. The sonnets of the second part are addressed to a mysterious "Dark Lady" who, thought physically unattractive, is irresistibly desiderable.

In 1616 the poet died and was buried in Stratford Paris Church.

His dramatic production covered a period of about twenty years. His most famous works are: Hamlet, Othello, Julius Caesar, The Tempest and Romeo and Juliet.
